Yep, they had one of those "bad days" at the office.......

I once picked up a multi trucked whaled bottomed car, from the LA Jct. to take to Taylor, that had a load of a reactor vessel, loaded on this sucker. We had the one car, and an SD-7. We derailed 4 times between the leaving the LAJ and the bottom of C yard, where we derailed again for the last time, and died on the hours of service....(12 hours on duty from the C yard 8 miles down the "river" to the LAJ and back). It first did it leaving the LAJ on the UP, and though from then on we went all the way up the river at about 2 mph, it walked off of the curve on the UP wye going toward the river. Our hosts, on the UPRR, who sent the same crew back out to rerail us twice, in less than about a mile, just shook their heads the second time.

This car spent two weeks in the car knockers shop a Taylor, being "re-secured" since it was not properly balanced when it was loaded and caused the multiple trucks to "walk" off from being unable to take the "curve" or any yard switch we hit. It derailed again for the crew that relieved us, on the last mile, just going the rest of the way up the 20 lead to the car shops.

Sometimes stuff just happens.........and it ain't you, that's in control.
