Yep, job security. Not that it doesn't take some time & talent to keep the bridge maintained & updated too, but it seems these days that the GGBH&TD is more public transit than it is the bridge. GGT isn't part of SMART, though; they mainly held the r/w in Marin south of Ignacio for future use and (south of Larkspur) a bike trail. Really, I wonder why they didn't convert the part through downtown SR into a bus lane many years ago when 101 was a parking lot and there was no prospect for near-term diamond lanes - which cost a ton when they finally got built. Oh well, we get the trains now. They do well with their buses; I'm not sure they want a train too.
