What is it about "Gold" lines? Similar thing happened some years ago in Sacramento when my train split the switch at the end of the double track while heading downtown (into the double track) and derailed (very slow speed). About 1/2 mile west of the Aerojet grade crossing and just before the crossing into Beck's Furniture. Both sets of gates stayed down; no idea why the ones at Aerojet did, since they should have cleared as soon as we passed them westbound. Aerojet gates stayed down for over an hour, until they got the back 3 cars (which didn't derail) uncoupled and moved back into the Hazel station and RT people did something in the relay shed at the switch location. Perhaps the LA people had too many trains to deal with and for safety reasons decided not to disable the connection between the signals and the grade crossings?
Us riders all got bus rides downtown (yes, I did have to give directions to the clueless bus driver) ... and we were still riding a bus bridge from Sunrise in the afternoon; minor streetcar derailments in SF were usually cleared up in an hour or 2, so why do minor light rail derailments take all day?
