Such history is mostly anecdotal (at least in my experience). All boiler water treatment chemicals are nasty - don't drink them...... at least Terlyn doesn't burn if you get it on you and you won't suffocate if you have to go into the tender.....
Sometimes what a new treatment chemical precipitates out of a boiler - old sediment, scale, treatment residue, etc., can be nasty until the boiler gets cleaned out of this stuff. So its not the treatment itself per se that causes problems........ since #844 and #4014 should have pretty clean boilers starting off this shouldn't be an issue.
