I don't think the C&C ran anything more than mixed trains. After 1905 SP ran through service from the Oakland Pier......pictures of the board at the Oakland Mole display "Tonopah Express" around 1920. Outside of Candelaria there wasn't much traffic between Moundhouse and the Owens Valley. The town of Hawthorne was a railroad creation to bring ore and traffic over from Aurora and Bodie. There was a depot and branch into town for a time.

One can wonder "what if"......V&T had not sold the line? Did SP have a hint the Tonopah discovery was about to happen? If the SP had acquired the V&T too, would its demise have been sooner and the SP scrap everything before Hollywood got their hands on it?
