#8 was a 2-4-4T, originally built by Baldwin in 1910 for the South San Francisco Belt Railroad, then later resold to the M&ET.
Baldwin built the #7 new for Lassen Lumber & Box in 1923 as their #25 for use on their logging railroad out of Susanville, California. Neighboring The Red River Lumber Company of Westwood absorbed LL&B in 1929, they kept the #25 and made periodic use of the locomotive until the M&ET made them an offer they couldn't refuse in 1938.
