Busway goes from NOHO to Chatsworth. Bikeway from City of Burbank border to near where the wye ends today.
Zev Yaroslavsky was anti rail, so the MTA built a nearly 2 billion dollar busway instead, that they claim is at "capacity" with a mere 25k+ trips (way lower daily ridership than similar busways in other much smaller cities like Ottawa....which may be more a symptom of MTA's flawed "line haul" operating strategy, than any actual lack of "capacity" on the facility itself?).
With Zevala now thankfully termed out of office, the San Fernando Valley politicians whined a lot about being "neglected", so MTA agreed to "convert" this to LRT for another 2.5+ billion, that will only add about 15k to the total daily ridership....making it one of the worst performing projects in terms of "cost" per "additional" passenger that of all rail projects included in the new sales tax measure.
Don't hold your breath waiting for this rail "conversion" on the old Burbank Branch. This project isn't even close to being competitive for Federal New Start funds, and there are a dozen other high performing rail projects, that will be done long before this is even started.
