Working in a heavy fog for an hour is like working 16 straight hours. It really saps you.
Looking forward towards the ground for that signal and the quick chance you have to see its idication. Keeping track of where you are when you can't see a thing. It takes it out of you.
One thing I always did was turn off the headlight and point the mars light up, to the farthest left, as possible. It gave you a bit of a chance to see that oncoming signal a little farther away than with the headlight glare.
