Another good place to watch jointed rail action is on the Watco owned Great Northwest Railroad out of Lewiston, Id, Their daily Downriver job leaves East Lewiston mid afternoon
Sunday thru Friday and for about 30 miles their line and a road are side by side on some
slightly rough jointed 133 pound ex-UP rail at 40 mph. It is interesting to pace the train as you can see how the springs and trucks flex over the low joints giving you a perspective on how well engineered rail car trucks are.
