The article will result in a big crackdown on port trucking companies, for a few weeks. I bet many will be back in business very soon, under a new name and operating authority, and with the owners' wife / cousin / son / uncle as the new CEO on paper. I've seen it happen many times here in Seattle; trucks at the port with 3 or 4 old trucking company decals under the current one, with all companies owned by the same @$$holes. These owners know all the tricks, and often have several paper companies running at the same time, just to confuse the regulators. At least one of their companies will be an INTERstate carrier, just to justify paying their drivers be the mile, by the load, or by the day. And it will continue until the regulatory agencies grow the stones to stop it, regardless of how loud the owners, importers, and consumer companies scream.
