Roaring Camp & Santa Cruz RTC debate

Understand that this forum is all about trains and history of them. Also understand that most you think that we are against the trains in Santa Cruz. That is not true, we are just trying to make our community better, safer and allow for Roaring Camp trains to be successful.

Below is the video of the track run near Santa Cruz Boardwalk where Roaring Camp does on/off-boarding.

You may not know this, but the local Regional Transportation Commission (RTC) has plans for some sort of transit along this corridor. This will result in Roaring Camp not being able to park in front of the Boardwalk.

We (Trailnow.org, sccgreenway.org) are large organizations who oppose big transit vehicles (buses, trains) along the Coastal Corridor - because it is not wide enough nor economically viable. All the studies have shown it is not possible. 2/3 of the railroad goes through farmland. We have all the farmers on our side.

We are proposing that a new on/off-boarding location be established for Roaring Camp at the Depot Station that is adjacent to the Boardwalk. It is the location where GGM tried to establish a museum. We support a train museum and retail center for Roaring Camp - that doesn't mean they move their operations from Felton - just allows them more opportunity. Plenty of room for parking and train displays.

So, I understand you think we are trolling on your forum, but we are just trying to get the message that Roaring Camp is going to have to move either way and we are supportive to make a new facility for them.

Brian
