Actually most of the answers make good sense, including yours relating to the trains hauling track supplies being done. Demand for grains is way down due to a wet winter and a great local harvest. That makes up the bulk of NWP's business.There is very little demand for rail service in the north bay.Even if new turnouts were free it is doubtful customers would be paying to have new spurs built into there businesses. The Dutra spur is just one half of the equation you would need to build spurs on the receiving end.Rebuilding the line to the active lumber mills in Cloverdale would boost carloads. I have heard people remark if the NWP would market it self better they could generate more carloads.They had hired a very experienced rail marketing salesman and he came up with zero new business. Without the tank car storage in Schellville the NWP would probably shut down.
