It always bothers me when I see the media make a big deal out of some picayune corruption by some piddling functionary like Mayor Rizzo of Bell or some accountant embezzling a few grand here and there. The real corruption is in the planning surrounding land use. Billions and billions and billions.

This high desert scandal is bigger than the San Fernando Valley of "Chinatown" fame but every as bit as sinister. Where are the ace reporters investigating this thing? I guess they are scared ****less of the power of these people.

When I think of the insidious power of the Ranch et al I am reminded of a line which I think came from Meyer Lansky(and definitely repeated by Manny Weisbord in "Crime Story"): "We are bigger than US Steel."
