Don't mean to be too negative but your evaluation of the T1 contradicts what I heard from a relative in 1959 who was a retired hostler with the Pennsylvania in Altoona. He said they slipped and they blew dirt into the cab. He did not rate the J's very high either - the driving rods were too heavy. In his opinion the K-4's were most favored by the enginemen.
