I walked out on that part of the trestle a few months before the fire and noticed that many of the pilings were all rotted out. I doubt that it could have held a train. About that time Caltrain was talking about repairing the bridge and running trains over to Fremont. When I heard about the fire the first thing I thought of is that it was going to save the JPB a bunch of money in the removal and disposal of the old wood.
