There is no conspiracy here. But, railfans ought to be wondering
why part of the row is given up to a bike path, when it could have
been used for a second track that would allow more frequent passenger
trains and allow freight trains to run when they need to run.
In addition, the PUC letter is pretty clear. It doesn't say there
won't be a bike path. It says additional infrastructure will be
needed to ensure bikers/pedestrians are not harmed by flying debris.
This is what SMART doesn't want the public to know. The infrastructure
(primarily a wall when the bike path is close) cost $$$$. These
are $$$ it hasn't specified and doesn't want to specify.
It's also about SMART staff not coordinating with any of the other
agencies. They haven't coordinated with cities on quiet zones.
They haven't coordinated schedules/fares with Golden Gate Transit
or Marin County Transit District. They haven't coordinated with
impacted neighborhoods, cities (Larkspur and Novato). They clearly
haven't coordinated with the NCRA and its freight operator.
They are arrogant and ought to be shut down. And they will be
this fall. It's hard to see how their hype is going to convince
enough voters to pass the measure.
Did you see the unemployment rate? Do unemployed people vote
for higher taxes?
