If you got to see an SP end cab switcher in red and yellow, you were lucky. Apparently only two of them were so-painted.
I just spent a minute reading about the use of red and yellow in graphic arts and branding. Red is considered aggressive, energetic, provocative and attention grabbing. Yellow communicates optimism, positivism, light and warmth. Banks and financial institutions stay away from those colors, prefering blue, which conveys stability and calm.
You know what, I wish the ICC/STB had disallowed mega-mergers (say around 1990) setting a cap on total route miles permitted. We would probably be better off today with the old SP, ATSF, and BN.
