Well, there are currently 13 Pacific Surfliner round trips daily between LAUPT and San Diego. Add to that Metrolink and Coaster schedules and I am sure you can come up with 16 round trips on each weekday between San Diego and LAUPT.

16 round trips daily between LAUPT and Santa Barbra would not be possible or practical. No where near enough passengers to fill those seats. Also, way too much single track to make that work. There are currently 5 round trips per day plus the Coast Starlight. Could a couple more be used, probably. But that would require Union Pacific agreement and lots of money for infrastructure improvements to allow that to happen.
