Thank you very much for your most excellent and
cogent posts on this interesting subject. We all
benefit from knowing the facts about this project.
However, you said --
> This routing would not allow for an eventual (long
> after we're all dead?) Kopp "vison" of an under 3 hour
> service to LA, for which we have plenty of unused excess
> intrastate regional airport capacity for well over the next
> 30 years into the future.
Were you including LAX n this "plenty of unused excess
intrastate regional airport capacity"? I keep reading in
aviation forums that LAX has for some time been operating
every day at twice its design capacity, which was only
expected to be seen during brief holiday periods, but which
now is said to happen every day.
Or were your referring to smaller airports, such as
Sacramento, John Wayne Airport (SNA), Bob Hope Airport
(BUR) in Burbank, Van Nuys Airport (VNY), Ontario International
Airport (ONT), and San Diego International Airport (SAN)?
I do not what capacity any of these airports are operating at.
I do know that adding even more flights to many of those smaller
airports will seriously lessen and degrade the quality of life
for nearby residents if many new flights are allowed to use
those airports. I am not a "NIMBY", but I do support people
getting a decent night's sleep, which would not be possible if
many more flights are added to some of those airports.
No, I do NOT support CAHSR in any form anywhere in California,
for all the reasons you have given so well in your posts on HSR.
I do very much supportvthe Dumbnarton Rail Project and other rail
projects here in California that currently do not provide frequent
service because they are underfunded.
For any project of any kind: the money exists for it and can be
found; it is just either being spent on the wrong things -- war
or CAHSR, to give two very large examples -- or it is being hoarded
and should be taxed fairly to benefit everyone.
I am glad that this Dumbarton Rail Project is finally getting
some big political support. It is about time!
