TriMet was founded in 1969. The OC line was removed around 1973.

The line was included in a corridor study for TriMet for future potential high-capacity transit service. Why that never came to pass is a larger story I don't have all the pieces to, but I'd say it's a safe bet that some of the factors would include a desire to abandon on the part of PTC owners SP & UP combined with a lack of money and willpower at TriMet to invest in light rail at that time.
