As I understand it, the primary issue with older GE locomotives was the engine itself, and other main components were pretty solidly built. That being said, have any older (U/-7/-8) GE locomotives been re-engined with GEVO or EMD engines, and if not, is this theoretically possible(I am aware of SP's short-lived Sulzer rebuilds)? What sort of modifications would it take, if any?
