You found another seat and didn't have to stand. So what's the problem?
If it bothered you so much, than why didn't you ask if she paid for two seats. If she said no, then you could have asked her to move her stuff so you could sit next to her.
A couple of years ago, I was riding a San Francisco MUNI bus when a young, small-statured woman boarded and proceeded to sit down next to a dude with his legs spread out. She calmly, but firmly, told him to move his legs and he complied so she could sit comfortably.
Stop playing the victim.
