Truck-train accident, La Grande, Oregon

A man was seriously injured Wednesday morning when the Nissan pickup he was driving collided with a moving train on the north side Highway 30 near the Gekeler Lane crossing. The accident occurred at about 7 a.m. and the accident victim was Life Flighted out of the area to a regional hospital.

The individual was driving east on Highway 30 when he lost control of his vehicle, crossed over the left lane and went about 20 feet off the road where the pickup collided with a moving westbound train, according to the Union County Sheriff's Office.

The La Grande Fire Department, the La Grande Rural Fire Department, the La Grande Police Department, the Union County Sheriff's Office and the Oregon State Police all responded to the accident. The Oregon State Police are in charge of investigating the accident.
