The North Shore quit on January 20, 1963, with the last trains tying up early on the morning of January 21.

The Skokie SWift was started in April of 1964.

Since then the line has been rebuilt several times and is now equipped with third rail for its entire distance. It is now usable by any and all cars in the CTA fleet.
