Like "J" - the answer lies in what the equipment is, and how much of a deep clean it is, or if it's a quick swill off. For what it's worth I got involved in developing locomotive washing chemicals for the outfit that won the contract to service a fleet of GM Class 66's here in the UK. Wash was part of the contract. We did all the trials on a hand pressure washer, hot parrafin heated. Wash, soak,brush and then pressure lance off - we never used more than 1000 litres (260 US galls), we used a 1000 litre IBC as a feed tank for the operation. I believe they carried on in that fashion until they lost the contract. Harold.
