I know there has been some talk about the safety culture on CSX and I often take such conversations with a grain of salt, but I came across this article about an accident in Indianapolis where it appears they had not one, but two run aways within 15 minutes of one another. One engineer was quoted as this being "precision railroading" and another saying "That's right, that's the new philosophy."
So my questions are these: Is CSX really changing the culture of safety on the job? Are there not enough old graybeard employees to maintain safe railroading? Or are they being pushed into unsafe practices? To me, one set of cars being pushed out of a yard into a run-away state is unacceptable, but two within minutes begins to border on criminality. Does this issue boil all the way to the top as has been suggested before?
