I understand your point, which is why I stood next to an armed Amtrak security agent to watch the train. The agent had no problem with me being there at all. The rule was not what irked me, the fellow declaring this is "my station" and he personally is kicking me off his platform. That is not how you should ever approach a customer is my point. He was personally kicking me off rather than stating that it is Amtrak's policy at this station and he is obligated to enforce the rule which is the way it should be stated. His method implies that it is his station and he has the power to enforce his will and could do so arbitrarily if it suits him. A less controlled individual could very easily interpret his approach as fighting words. As to another comment, I do know things can happen and I clearly stated that the on board crew seems to have their hands tied so I did not blame them. Normally I would let the unfortunate room problem slide, but when added to the imbecile who is paid to deal with Amtrak customers at the station, this time it will not be let go. The outfit leaves me with the impression that they don't need or want me hanging around. Between the wife and I we have traveled around 190k miles or more on Amtrak, so not exactly novice passengers.
The wife loves taking the train every year to Indiana to visit family and always rides first class. She uses the time on the train to relax and unwind in comfort which she deserves considering what most would consider a brutal amount of job related work.
The GOP has been talking about gutting Amtrak since its inception to amuse the base, which by now know they are not going to scrap anything. Nobody is going to stop the growth of government other than a total collapse of finances at which point they will start skimming bank accounts and seize your 401k accounts. We already have had a trial run on skimming bank accounts in Greece and the progressives have stated it is their desire to seize 401k accounts for your own good. They know where to find the cash and how to control it and you.
