Caltrain Work Train Strikes Car on Tracks in Redwood City

A 29-year-old man crashed through a fence early Tuesday in Redwood City and came to rest on Caltrain tracks, where a [northbound work] train immediately struck and killed him, transit agency officials said.

The driver of a blue Volkswagen sedan lost control about 1:20 a.m. near Buckingham and Westmoreland avenues. After plowing through the fence, the car landed on its side on the tracks, said Tasha Bartholomew, a Caltrain spokeswoman.
