Now then - Starting with the New York Central between Elkhart, IN and Gary IN with my granddad, the retired NYC passenger conductor, on trains pulled by Hudson class steam locos locomotives(about 1954, I'd guess), riding SP trains 98 and 99( the Coast Daylight for the uninitiated) between Glendale or LAUPT and San Jose, walking the length of the train and not realising the treasures that were there, and even riding in the round-end first class obs. car behind the Dome car. The brief trip with the Owl as a little kid, the trip on the San Joaquin
Daylight from Berkeley station to Glendale up and over the Loop, again in a round-end (coach) observation car, or maybe that ride on ATSF's chief from Nowhere, AZ to LA, at Christmas in 1969, and arriving to an air temp. of 27F. and sparkling So.Cal skies! Not to mention the Peninsula commute fleet.
