Yep, at least that's what they told me when I applied and got called back for the interview in the early 90s. That's when I told them "no, thanks anyway".

Applying for engine service is one thing; getting forced into it is another. I also didn't like the prospect of bouncing back and forth between the district and the Atlanta area for extended periods during training.
