How about providing statistical data showing that railfans who are Democrats are less likely to donate to steam restoration and other rail preservation efforts than railfans who are Independents, Republicans or politically indifferent.
I'm a Democrat who donated $100 to the Duluth & Northeastern #28 restoration, even though I do not live anywhere near Duluth, Minnesota and did not get there this year and may not make it out there next year. I'm also a member of a local rail museum and make regularly contribute above the membership fee when dues are being renewed. Lastly, my girlfriend (also a Democrat) and I have contributed to train station renovation projects in our area.
