Yesterday I make a quick (well not really) trip from Redding, CA over to Perez, CA to check out what was left of the Lake Railway equipment that had been reported to be stored there. For those unfamiliar with with far northeastern California, Perez is a siding on the former SP Modoc Line. In recent years it has been used by the UP and Lake Railway as an interchange point. Recently Lake Railway lost their lease (not sure of the details of exactly what happened here) on the Lakeview Branch which is owned by Lake County, OR. The new operator, Goose Lake Railway, started operating the branch in early September 2017. I had (wrongly) assumed that Lake Railway was defunct, and that Goose Lake Railway was operation to Perez. Many thanks to SP5103 who corrected me on a previous post that Lake Railway is still running between Perez and Alturas, and Goose Lake Railway is running only on the Lakeview Branch.


Sure enough when I got to Perez last night I found a good bit of the Lake Railway equipment tied up on the wye at Perez, but not all. My suspicion is that the remaining power may have been at Alturas, CA, but not knowing that at the time I did not venture over to check. I've always wanted to photograph this railroad running, but lack of knowledge of schedule and other commitments have always gotten in the way. Looks like I still may have a chance.
