Looking at the photo linked above, the lift section caught my eye. It seemed interesting that a bridge would have both a lift section and a swing section, so I had to do some digging.

The Wikipedia article about the bridge says "The swing span, to the south of the lift span, remains in place, but it ceased to be used after the lift span was installed. It was "permanently locked in place" in October 1956, for the start of work to modify the bridge." [en.wikipedia.org]
