For those who are not familiar with Vision Zero:
The basic idea is to assume that humans, whether drivers, cyclists or pedestrians, are fallible. They make mistakes and die or kill others. Vision Zero is an attempt to make the roads and the vehicles that use them more user safe. Much of the technology has already been developed and implemented in other countries, especially Europe but also some South American countries.
Implementing these ideas here runs into some of the usual human difficulties; the "not invented here" problem (USA! USA! but we aren't the only ones), the "but that's how we've always done it" problem, the "that goes against the standards" problem and last but not least the "Those (pedestrians, cyclists, drivers - chose one... or two) are the problem" problem.
Safer streets and roads, fewer deaths. No, we won't get to zero, but any caring person should consider it a worthy goal.
