All the export yards seem to use "last trip" containers. It is fun to watch them load a can. Usually, the shovel needs to drag the door open because the can is sprung so bad. At the end of the load, they will leave two or three logs sticking out while the truck runs across the scale to see if it is close enough. Rarely do they pull a log out. The shovels usually have a short 10-12 foot hemlock chunk around 24" diamater they use to hammer the final logs into the container. I have seen the door frame sprung 8 inches or more up as they pound them in. They then take the chunk and hammer the frame down, and back into some semblance of square. How they get the doors to close and latch is always a mystery to me, but they do.

What I would really like to see is how they unload the cans at their destination. As a retired log truck driver, we always took second place to loading the cans, our time was not important, but getting the ship out was. We might sit there for an hour or more watching this amazing feat of loading cans.
