On the SP, this was true in most cases but some locations had water stand pipes that were about the same diameter or smaller than oil stand pipes, such as seen in a photo posted on Trainorders taken at Friant, California: [www.trainorders.com]

The canvas sleeve below the spout in the photo is an identifier for this being a water stand pipe.
