This is the way of business. I know there are a lot of people that remember the BLE contract between the PE & SP? I won't mention any names because many may still be with us.
Over a many martini lunch in the LA area,(after the PE was owned and operated by the SP) a contract was signed that made the PE hogheads with the best contract ever to come down the pike.
A PE hogger got 100 miles deadheading out to a job, a yard goat 5 miles away. 100 miles for the day working and a 100 mile deadhead back in. 300 miles a day. The list goes on. I know for a fact that when a new Superintendent showed up he had a fit that the the PE hoggers made almost twice as much as he did. This contract stayed in effect until the last PE engineer retired way into the 70s, I think.
Got to love it.
