The red "STOP" board has nothing to do with the crossing replacement in Byron. The trestle over Marsh Creek in Brentwood was damaged by a grass fire several years ago, and it has never been repaired. Only the section of track across the Marsh Creek trestle is out of service (between the Sand Creek Road and Central Blvd. crossings).

The crossing project in Byron is part of a Contra Costa County project to widen and raise the intersection of Byron Highway and Camino Diablo Blvd. The crossing is being widened, new crossing signals installed, and a traffic light installed at the intersection.
