I wonder if it really was anorexia as we know it today. There wasn't a very good understanding about cancer back in those days. He could have had a form of cancer that made him not want to eat. Results are the same. It's just like how it used to be common for pneumonia to be listed as the cause of death of people. Now it's known that other medical conditions are present that cause pneumonia. The result is the same - pneumonia kills the person. But now doctors know that the actual cause of death from the other medical condition.
It's kind of funny that 100 years after the Northern Securities case the railroads in question have all merged as was planned 100 years ago. Where's Teddy Roosevelt when you need him.
