It eliminated a lot of slow street running and it gave the produce companies the ability to block the street as much as they wanted in the mornings. That would also save on a lot of maintenance. Yhe Sp line had shorter street running sections and no produce trucks interfering.

A small segment of the old connection track inside the East Oakland Yard still exits.
