Power vacuums and appeasement are two phenomena with dire consequences. Certainly Hitler in 1933 and Stalin in 1945. The Munich accord of 1938 proved to be as stupid as the Trojans taking a Greek wooden horse inside the city walls.

Perhaps Germany should have won WW1 if we had not gotten involved and things might have turned out differently in 1933. Who can know? But for sure the Russians were correct to continue fighting to the last, unlike the French, as the Nazis were going to kill them anyway.
