The Locomotive was based on a real "heritage" SNCF Class 241-A steam engine. A very few select close up scenes of the train were filmed using the real engine in Switzerland and then the footage was heavily changed with CGI. Switzerland was used because it was close to where the heritage engine is based and the green grass is a free green screen.
