I can remember when the Examiner was an afternoon paper; I also remember the GREEN page in Chronicle Sports. Sitting in the little cafe that was part of the motel complex just off 3rd Ave above the Bayshore Caltrain station. Diced ham & scrambled eggs with burnt toast & " Three Dot " Herb Caen's column, after an all - night drive up from Irvine. In the afternoon I wasn't too tired, I'd walk down to Caltrain & ride a quick roundtrip to The City.
