I agree, there are a lot of great choices from everyone so far. Here are my top 5.

1. Gore Canyon. Actually just about the whole line from Glenwood Springs to Denver is awesome.
2. Feather Rive Canyon. I also was on a fan trip once that went up the Hi-Line to Westwood and just about anywhere in proximity to Keddie is spectacular railroading.
3. Durango & Silverton. What can you add here?
4. Alaska Railroad from Anchorage to Seward and the Whittier shuttle. Alaska at its finest (Haven't been on the White Pass line, but I am sure it's just as good)
5. SP Cascade line Dunsmuir to Mt. Shasta. I am not old enough to have ridden the Shasta Daylight, but on a very late #14 once I was treated to this stretch of line in daylight. wow!

Honerable mention to the Eel River Canyon on the NWP.

As said before, it's mostly a matter of individual taste, but what a fun subject to discuss!
