Just posted on another thread, but thought I'd post here as well. I'd love to hear your feedback Howard.

Back in the day, UP was doing about 5,000 cars a year with 90% going to the Cemex plant in Davenport. Even then, they were making little if any real income. Now that the plant is closed, there is basically no freight north of Watsonville.

At best, IP was doing around 400 cars a year, and that's being generous. They had five years to generate some additional business, and couldn't do it. Not sure how anyone else could change that.

The other issue is bike fans got their "trail-only" scheme included in the Unified Corridor Study. Why would any SLO dump resources into this location if the RTC is actively looking at a scenario that would remove the tracks?

What a mess.
