I come from a railroad family. Off the top of my head I can think of 15 relatives who were in train service.
That said, I wouldn't hit a dog in the arse with either railfans or railroaders who rejoice at the death of another person. People like that are BENEATH contempt.
Just because you don't agree with a person's business philosophy doesn't mean that person was any less a human being than any of you holier-than-thou nitwits.
Everyone is a human being of value, and every person has different ideas about everything, including how to run a railroad. For some of the people on these boards railroading is a living. For the vast majority it's a hobby (and that goes for the bulk of the excursion crowd too). Yet, everyone here just knew that they could do better than EHH. Yet, few if any of you are actually in railroad management. Now he's passed away, and the cheers are f'ing disgusting.
How about the rest of us jump for joy when you, your mother or father, your kids, or any other family member pass away? After all, we may not agree with your ideas, so that means we have cart blanche to dance on your (or their) grave, right?
To anyone who doesn't see EHH's death as something to celebrate, I apologize. For the rest of you, the Reaper will be here for you much quicker than you realize. You'll have to ponder about who among the living will celebrate your demise, and who among us will grieve.
And before you say it, I'm not particularly a fan of EHH. I didn't agree with some of the decisions, but I'm not privy to the long term plan for CSX. And neither are you.
