Marx was certainly correct in outing religion as a control tool of the ruling class and observing that a successful government must have control of the means of propaganda. Clearly Trump does not have control of the Hollywood and Manhattan media eunuchs. Most likely a dictatorship in the US would start on the left, consolidate power and then bring the media to heel. And then a turn to the eccentricities that accompany one strong man rule, as with Rocketman, Putin, Mugabe, Erdogan, the Ayatollah, and all the rest.
