USA Today:
Amtrak passenger deaths are rare despite concerns over infrastructure. Link

Article states just 158 Amtrak passengers have been killed from 1975 thru 2015 and a good portion of those were self inflicted. Has anybody pondered the cost benefit of PTC over other measures to improve transportation safety. Since there are only so many dollars available for transportation improvements would they be better spent for needs more beneficial in saving lives?
NTSB issued the first safety recommendation concerning train control technology in 1970, there have been more than 140 accidents across the country resulting in nearly 300 fatalities, more than 6500 injuries, and costing millions of dollars, that could have been prevented or mitigated by PTC.
According to Railway Age over 8 billion has already been spent on PTC.
