While Florida has responded to the ugly side of the creative class problem, some of the drivers are still important. The generally less tolerant culture (be it ethnicity, sexuality, or many other issues) in some areas of the country still acts to encourage migration to some of the coastal nodes where conformity is less of an issue. This has been the case for decades. I remember a conversation in 64 w/ a fellow college student who had dropped out and moved to Berkeley. She noted that her BF worked on computers in an office where wearing jeans and sandals was tolerated--not quite the reality in either Chicago where we were chatting or Detroit from which her BF had moved.
The sharpening divide between the overly rich and the rest of us is way out of hand. That said, the croks at the top have done a swell jobpersuading various segments of the underclass to blame each other and the the science driven enviros for the problems mostlly tracebl to greed by the money shufflers.
