Like magic, we already see how such "spin" works so effectively, in "raising questions" and creating "kernels" of alternative truthiness.......
You are the target audience for this disinformation. And, of course, like all good disinformation efforts, it contains "kernels" of truth" about training leading up to the opening of the line...(and, according the to spin, it was not done "right", and thus "negligent", and it wasn't the fault of those operating the loco....).
And, we see how well this kind of "spin" works....
I ran a train. I will not be allowed to serve on any RR injury jury....ever.
These folks certainly had a lot more training on the bypass, including in the cab familiarization runs, on this route. This is more than I ever got on some of the grades I've operated on, like Cajon, back when it was still "dark" territory, with 8,000 tons of lumber behind me.
Yes, experience and training do matter. I had had plenty of experience with heavy trains on other routes I was completely familiar with. And, the unfamiliar route I was operating on did have speed signs for upcoming speed restrictions, and I had a timetable, and a gradient chart, and kept track of where I was, and kept "my" train, under "my" control, and managed to have a career with no human failure accidents or safety demerits of any kind.
I did have those sixty demerits for insubordination, for telling HMC to GFHS, when he wanted me to take that train out of West Colton, with a bad order pressure maintaining valve.
When one actually knows what one is doing , I find that one doesn't have to make nearly as many excuses....
